Research has shown that not only do we not change our passwords often enough, but we also use the same password for almost everything. Recognisable? Then it's time to do something about it. A weak password, or the same password for all your different accounts, makes it very easy for hackers to obtain all your personal data.

Your privacy is important

mobietec complies with the rules of the GDPR. Asking our customer portal users to set a strong password is part of that. We do this not only because of the privacy law, but also because we want to. Want more information about what this means? Click here.

The more you change your password, the better

That may sound difficult, because you have to remember yet another new password. But we would like to give you a few tips.

What are the secure passwords that are optimally resistant to crackers? Several experts believe that the most secure passwords consist of both lower and upper case letters, numbers and special characters. In addition, it must be at least 14 characters long. Why so many characters? The longer the password, the more difficult it is to hack.

This is why we ask you to use 14 characters, a capital letter and a punctuation mark in your password.

So how do you find a password that is both strong and easy to remember? Solution: don't make it too difficult for yourself, but make it long! Make up three or four random words and stick them together. How about the password "HorseWith1Beard"? Easy to remember, right? Even better, that extra digit makes a total of 476 sextillion (that's 36 zeros) possibilities and a crack time of 15,000 trillion centuries. Good luck, dear crackers.

One password, but still different

Of course, it is not safe to set the same password for every account. So how do you remember your passwords for all those different accounts? Make it simple for yourself: for example, add the same first and last letter to your password as the website's password. For Facebook this would be "fHorseWith1Beardk", for mobietec "mHorsewith1Beardc". This way you have one password for all your accounts (easy to remember), but still just different enough not to get in everywhere if things go wrong.

Please do not use this sample password. For any questions, please contact Tina at news@mobietec.be or the chatbox at the bottom right of this page.
